About the Role
Join Reboot Monkey as a Data Center Technician in Taipei, Taiwan. This is an onsite, independent contractor position supporting critical infrastructure at data center facilities.
Technicians will support assignments in or near Taipei, based on client requirements and available dispatches.
The role is primarily focused on hands-on data center operations, including rack-and-stack, server installation and decommissioning, structured cabling, hardware replacement, and physical troubleshooting. Depending on experience and assignment requirements, some technicians may also support networking configuration and more advanced technical tasks.
Compensation
Hourly contract rate – based on experience and assignment requirements
Technicians are paid for the actual hours worked on each assignment.
There is no guaranteed 8-hour workday or fixed number of hours per week.
Rates and assignment terms will be discussed during the recruitment process.
Any applicable travel allowance or additional assignment compensation will be confirmed based on the assignment.
Work Setup
Independent contractor / freelance arrangement
On-demand, dispatch-based assignments
Flexible scheduling depending on client requirements
Some assignments may require only a few hours, while others may require longer onsite support
Assignments may occur during regular hours, nights, weekends, or on short notice
Technicians should be comfortable working independently onsite with minimal supervision
Work is generally within or near the technician's local area
Please note: This is not a traditional full-time position. Assignments and schedules vary based on client demand, and there are no guaranteed weekly hours.
Key Responsibilities
Install, rack, stack, and decommission server and network equipment
Perform structured cabling, including copper and fiber-optic connections
Route, label, patch, and organize data center cabling
Replace server hardware components such as drives, RAM, power supplies, NICs, and other field-replaceable components
Perform physical troubleshooting of servers, network equipment, power, and connectivity issues
Assist with equipment deployments, migrations, and upgrades
Perform basic connectivity checks and troubleshoot physical link issues
Maintain accurate asset records, documentation, and ticket updates
Follow site procedures, technical instructions, maintenance windows, and safety requirements
Coordinate with project managers, remote engineers, and data center personnel
Complete assigned tasks independently and escalate issues when necessary
Additional Technical Responsibilities
For technicians with demonstrated advanced experience, assignments may also include:
Cisco or Juniper switch and router configuration
VLANs and basic routing configuration
SFP/QSFP and transceiver troubleshooting or replacement
Advanced network and server troubleshooting
Data center migrations and infrastructure upgrades
Complex connectivity troubleshooting and root cause analysis
Automation or scripting where required by the assignment
Work Authorization
Candidates must already have the legal right to work in Taiwan.
This is an independent contractor engagement, not a traditional employee position.
Reboot Monkey does not provide visa or work-permit sponsorship for these contract assignments.
Candidates must be able to legally perform freelance/independent contractor work in Taiwan under their existing status.
Candidates should not require employer sponsorship now or in the future.
Requirements
Hands-on experience in data center operations, IT infrastructure, server hardware, or related technical work
Experience with rack-and-stack, server installation/decommissioning, structured cabling, and hardware replacement
Strong hands-on experience with copper and/or fiber cabling
Ability to troubleshoot physical connectivity, cabling, power, and hardware issues
Ability to follow work orders, technical procedures, maintenance windows, and safety requirements
Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with remote teams
Comfortable working independently onsite
Reliable transportation to assigned data center locations
Basic tools required for onsite technical work, where applicable
Flexible availability for on-demand assignments, including nights, weekends, and short-notice requests
Relevant certifications such as CCNA, Network+, CDCP, or CDCS are an advantage
Experience with colocation or data center environments is preferred
Important
Hands-on data center experience is more important than certifications. Candidates should be comfortable performing physical onsite work, particularly rack-and-stack, structured cabling, hardware replacement, and physical troubleshooting.
