Rack and Stack in Brisbane

Bunya is a University of Queensland supercomputer run by its Research Computing Centre, with QCIF, based in Brisbane, helping fund it for Queensland researchers. Brisbane is a city where compute is installed, expanded and connected, and new hardware has to be physically placed before any of it can be used. NEXTDC B1 stands on Wharf Street in Brisbane.

Rack and stack is the part of a deployment that happens in the customer's rack: installing, mounting and cabling new hardware. Reboot Monkey is a third-party datacenter services operator, not a hosting company and not a datacenter owner. Equipment arrives at the facility, and Reboot Monkey engineers take it from the delivery point to a working, labelled installation in your rack.

Our Rack and Stack Services

Rack and stack work covers cabling, labelling and power-on checks. In practice a Brisbane job follows a fixed sequence from first contact to finished work.

You send the equipment list and the rack position. Reboot Monkey confirms the scope and quotes the job, since prices are quoted on request and depend on the customer and the size of the job. An engineer is briefed on your site, and a second, briefed Reboot Monkey engineer is named as backup for every customer site. On the day, the engineer mounts the hardware, runs and labels the cabling, and carries out the power-on checks before reporting back to you.

Where the rack needs network, Reboot Monkey sells the network for the rack: it orders the cross connects and carrier circuits from the facility operator and the carriers present in the facility, and Reboot Monkey engineers install and patch the cabling in your rack. A fibre inspection scope and cleaning kit are available on request.

  • Installing and mounting new hardware in the rack
  • Cabling and patching in the customer's rack
  • Labelling of cables and equipment
  • Power-on checks before handover

Why Reboot Monkey

Within those rules, the work is yours to direct and Reboot Monkey's to carry out. Reboot Monkey can supply more than the labour. It sells rack space, IP transit, leased IP addresses, network and data-centre hardware, together with the services that deliver, install and support them. One supplier can therefore cover the equipment, the connectivity and the hands that install them, which keeps a Brisbane deployment under a single point of contact. As of 2026, Reboot Monkey's field engineers work in 190 countries and more than 400 locations. For a Brisbane deployment this means the same way of working applies if the project later extends to sites elsewhere.

How Reboot Monkey Works

These terms apply in every facility in Brisbane where Reboot Monkey engineers work.

  • Response: 1-hour, around-the-clock incident response SLA, and a 15 minute premium response available where technicians are stationed on-site, as a paid add-on. The incident response SLA covers incidents and unplanned requests; on-site, dispatch and resolution times, priority tiers, and planned or scheduled work are agreed per site in the service agreement.
  • Monitoring: 24/7 NOC monitoring across all facilities, covering IPMI, iDRAC, SNMP, temperature, power, network signals.
  • Hardware: vendor-neutral technicians for Dell, HP, Cisco, Juniper and Arista equipment.
  • Independence: independent from facility operators (not Equinix SmartHands, not NTT staff).
  • One agreement: single provider across cities, so a customer in several cities needs only one agreement.
  • Service levels and terms: https://www.rebootmonkey.com/en/solutions/sla
  • Published case study: a major ICT provider engaged Reboot Monkey for three full infrastructure rollouts in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad, with the hardware installed the same day at every site. The data centres we work in hold their own certifications, such as ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 9001. Ask us for the certificate of your site.

Rack and Stack in Other Cities in Australia

If your deployment spans more than one Australian city, the same rack and stack scope applies in each location, so a multi-site rollout can be planned as one piece of work with consistent cabling and labelling conventions. For a parallel installation in New South Wales, see Rack and Stack in Sydney, where the request flow, the scope and the named backup engineer follow the same pattern as in Brisbane.

Related Services

Rack and stack often sits alongside the choice of where the equipment will live. If you still need rack space for the hardware being installed, see Colocation in Brisbane. Other work that follows an installation, such as remote hands, smart hands and hardware monitoring, can be arranged with the same supplier once the equipment is running. Remote hands covers physical tasks carried out on your instruction, such as reboots, cable checks, component swaps and visual checks. Smart hands covers technical work that needs diagnostic judgement and configuration knowledge. Hardware monitoring is the monitoring of your servers and network equipment by the Reboot Monkey NOC.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does rack and stack cover in Brisbane?

Rack and stack in Brisbane means installing, mounting and cabling new hardware in the customer's rack. The work covers cabling, labelling and power-on checks. Reboot Monkey engineers carry it out under the facility operator's site rules, and a second, briefed engineer is named as backup for every customer site. Quotes are on request and depend on the customer and the size of the job.

Do you work in every datacenter in Brisbane?

Reboot Monkey engineers work in any facility in Brisbane where the customer has equipment and access, under the operator's own access and safety rules. The customer adds the engineers to the facility's access list before the first visit.

How fast can Reboot Monkey respond in Brisbane?

Incidents and unplanned requests are handled under a 1-hour, around-the-clock incident response SLA. There is also a 15 minute premium response available where technicians are stationed on-site, as a paid add-on. On-site, dispatch and resolution times, priority tiers, and planned or scheduled work are agreed per site in the service agreement.

How is Reboot Monkey different from the facility operator's own staff?

Facility operators' own technicians work for the building. Reboot Monkey engineers work for the customer: they are independent from facility operators (not Equinix SmartHands, not NTT staff), follow the customer's instructions, and the same team can cover several buildings in the city under one agreement.

How do I get started with rack and stack in Brisbane?

Send the site, the equipment and the task through the contact form. Reboot Monkey replies with a quote and an engineer plan for that facility. Once agreed, the customer adds the engineers to the facility's access list and the rack and stack work is scheduled under the operator's rules.
