We're looking for skilled Freelance Data Center Technicians to join our growing contractor network and support assignments at data center facilities in different locations.
Job Overview
As a Freelance Data Center Technician, you will provide onsite technical support based on client requirements and assignment availability. Tasks may include rack-and-stack, server installation and decommissioning, structured cabling, hardware replacement, physical troubleshooting, and, depending on your experience, advanced networking tasks.
This is an hourly, dispatch-based contract opportunity. Assignments depend on client demand and may range from a few hours to a full day or longer.
Compensation
Hourly contract rate – based on experience and assignment requirements
Technicians are paid for the actual hours worked on each assignment.
There is no guaranteed 8-hour workday or fixed number of hours per week.
Rates and assignment terms will be discussed during the recruitment process.
Work Setup
Contract/freelance basis
On-demand, dispatch-based assignments
Flexible scheduling depending on client requirements
Some assignments may require only a few hours, while others may require longer onsite support
Assignments may occur during regular hours, nights, weekends, or on short notice
Technicians should be comfortable working independently onsite with minimal supervision
Work is generally within or near the technician's local area
Please note: This is not a traditional full-time position. Assignments and schedules vary based on client demand.
Key Responsibilities
Install, rack, stack, and decommission server and network equipment
Perform structured cabling, including copper and fiber-optic connections
Replace hardware components and perform basic physical troubleshooting
Assist with equipment deployments, migrations, and upgrades
Troubleshoot physical connectivity, cabling, and hardware issues
Maintain accurate documentation, asset records, and ticket updates
Follow site procedures, technical instructions, and safety requirements
Coordinate with project managers, remote teams, and data center personnel
Complete assigned tasks independently and escalate issues when necessary
For technicians with advanced technical experience, assignments may also involve:
Advanced Cisco or Juniper routing and switching configuration
VLANs, routing protocols, ACLs, and network security
Complex network and server troubleshooting, including root cause analysis
Data center migrations, infrastructure upgrades, and network reconfiguration
Automation, scripting, and advanced server/network configuration
Troubleshooting complex connectivity issues across multiple devices and systems
Requirements
Hands-on experience in data center operations, IT infrastructure, hardware installation, or related technical work
Practical experience with rack-and-stack, server installation, decommissioning, structured cabling, or hardware troubleshooting
Familiarity with copper cabling and fiber-optic infrastructure, depending on the assignment
Ability to follow technical instructions, tickets, site procedures, and safety requirements
Ability to work independently onsite and communicate effectively with remote teams
Legally authorized to work in the country where the assignment takes place, without requiring employer-sponsored work authorization
Own transportation and basic tools where required by the assignment
Willingness to accept assignments that may involve nights, weekends, or short-notice requests
Relevant certifications, such as CCNA, Network+, CDCP, or CDCS, are an advantage for applicable assignments
Requirements
Education:
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred but not required.
Experience:
3+ years of experience in data center operations, with a strong focus on independent or freelance projects.
Technical Skills:
Extensive hands-on experience with Cisco and Juniper networking devices.
Strong proficiency in managing and troubleshooting Windows and Linux-based systems.
Solid understanding of networking principles (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, VLANs).
Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V is a plus.
Certifications:
Valid certifications like Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Juniper JNCIA/JNCIS, or CompTIA Linux+ are highly desirable.
General Requirements:
Ability to travel to various data center locations on short notice.
Flexibility to work outside regular hours, including nights and weekends if required.
Must have access to necessary tools and equipment to perform data center tasks.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and remotely.
Excellent communication skills for collaboration with remote teams.
