Data Center Decommissioning in Berlin

Retiring a deployment in Berlin is a controlled removal job, and most of its risk sits in the paperwork and the scheduling rather than in the lifting. NorthC Berlin stands on Gradestrasse in Berlin, and equipment leaving a building like that has to be accounted for item by item before it leaves the rack. Reboot Monkey is a third-party datacenter services operator. It does not host your workloads and it does not own the building, so the decommissioning is carried out as a service inside a facility run by someone else.

The facility operator owns and runs the building, including its power, cooling and access policy, and Reboot Monkey engineers work under the operator's site rules. For a buyer, that means the removal date, the access arrangements and any restrictions on moving equipment are agreed with the customer in advance, not improvised on the day.

Our Data Center Decommissioning Services

Data center decommissioning is defined here as removing and disposing of retired hardware. In practice the scope covers servers, switches, storage arrays, and their cabling and rail kits. Nothing is left half-stripped in a rack, because the cabling and rail kits are part of the job and not an afterthought.

The work follows a fixed sequence, so you can check each stage against your own records:

  • Before removal, serial numbers, asset tags and rack positions are recorded against your asset list, so the starting inventory matches what is physically in the rack.
  • Removal is scheduled with you in advance, including any out-of-hours or weekend windows the facility requires.
  • During removal, every item is logged as it is taken out, which gives you a running record instead of a summary written afterwards.
  • Retired hardware that leaves the site can go on to IT asset disposition (ITAD): data wiping, on-site shredding or degaussing, collection and transport, and resale or buyback quoted case by case. This is processed by Reboot Monkey staff in a partner's processing facility or on your site.

Why Reboot Monkey

A decommissioning window is short, and the person who arrives needs to know the site and the asset list. A second, briefed Reboot Monkey engineer is named as backup for every customer site, so a single absence does not move a removal date you have already agreed with the operator.

Reboot Monkey also sells the network and rack space that decommissioned hardware often has to be replaced with. Where a retirement is part of a larger change, the same engineers who remove the old equipment can install the new. Reboot Monkey orders the cross connects and carrier circuits from the facility operator and the carriers present in the facility, and its engineers install and patch the cabling in your rack. That keeps a retirement and its replacement in one plan with one point of contact.

Prices are quoted on request and depend on the customer and the size of the job. The scope is set against your asset list, so the quote reflects what is physically being removed.

How Reboot Monkey Works

These terms apply in every facility in Berlin where Reboot Monkey engineers work.

  • Response: 1-hour, around-the-clock incident response SLA, and a 15 minute premium response available where technicians are stationed on-site, as a paid add-on. The incident response SLA covers incidents and unplanned requests; on-site, dispatch and resolution times, priority tiers, and planned or scheduled work are agreed per site in the service agreement.
  • Monitoring: 24/7 NOC monitoring across all facilities, covering IPMI, iDRAC, SNMP, temperature, power, network signals.
  • Hardware: vendor-neutral technicians for Dell, HP, Cisco, Juniper and Arista equipment.
  • Independence: independent from facility operators (not Equinix SmartHands, not NTT staff).
  • One agreement: single provider across cities, so a customer in several cities needs only one agreement.
  • Service levels and terms: https://www.rebootmonkey.com/en/solutions/sla
  • Published case study: a major ICT provider engaged Reboot Monkey for three full infrastructure rollouts in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad, with the hardware installed the same day at every site. Data sanitization and certificates

The data centres we work in hold their own certifications, such as ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 9001. Ask us for the certificate of your site.

  • NIST SP 800-88 data sanitization
  • Certificate of Destruction issued per storage device processed

Data Center Decommissioning in Other Cities in Germany

If your estate in Germany spans more than one site, the same recording and removal process applies across them. Retiring hardware in Frankfurt follows the same steps as in Berlin, and the arrangement for a second site can be planned alongside the first. For the facility in Frankfurt, see Data Center Decommissioning in Frankfurt.

As of 2026, Reboot Monkey's field engineers work in 190 countries and more than 400 locations. For a multi-site retirement, that means one provider can coordinate removal across locations rather than you managing a separate contractor in each.

Related Services

Decommissioning is often one step in a larger programme. When retired hardware is replaced rather than simply removed, you can plan Data Center Migration in Berlin, which moves equipment between racks, rooms or facilities. For tasks that surface during a teardown, such as a cable check or a visual check on equipment that stays in place, Remote Hands in Berlin covers physical tasks carried out on your instruction.

Keeping these in one engagement means the engineers who know your rack layout and asset list are the same ones who handle the next task.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does data center decommissioning cover in Berlin?

Data center decommissioning in Berlin covers removing and disposing of retired hardware: servers, switches, storage arrays, and their cabling and rail kits. Serial numbers, asset tags and rack positions are recorded against your asset list, removal is scheduled with you in advance, and every item is logged as it is removed.

Do you work in every datacenter in Berlin?

Reboot Monkey engineers work in any facility in Berlin where the customer has equipment and access, under the operator's own access and safety rules. The customer adds the engineers to the facility's access list before the first visit.

How fast can Reboot Monkey respond in Berlin?

Incidents and unplanned requests are handled under a 1-hour, around-the-clock incident response SLA. There is also a 15 minute premium response available where technicians are stationed on-site, as a paid add-on. On-site, dispatch and resolution times, priority tiers, and planned or scheduled work are agreed per site in the service agreement.

How is Reboot Monkey different from the facility operator's own staff?

Facility operators' own technicians work for the building. Reboot Monkey engineers work for the customer: they are independent from facility operators (not Equinix SmartHands, not NTT staff), follow the customer's instructions, and the same team can cover several buildings in the city under one agreement.

How do I get started with data center decommissioning in Berlin?

Send the site, the equipment and the task through the contact form. Reboot Monkey replies with a quote and an engineer plan for that facility. Once agreed, the customer adds the engineers to the facility's access list and the data center decommissioning work is scheduled under the operator's rules.
