Data Center Migration in Rotterdam

NL-ix operates R_iX, a local internet exchange in Rotterdam. NL-ix says its Rotterdam exchange R_iX is a great base for connections to London, Amsterdam, Paris and Frankfurt. For a company moving equipment into or out of the city, that connectivity is one of the inputs to the migration plan, because circuits and cross connects have to be in place before the hardware is switched over. Eurofiber Datacenter Rotterdam 2 stands on Schuttevaerweg in Rotterdam.

Server migration, as Reboot Monkey defines it, means moving equipment between racks, rooms or facilities. A move can stay inside one building, go from one Rotterdam facility to another, or bring hardware in from elsewhere. In each case the equipment is physically relocated, recabled and brought back into service in the new position.

Our Data Center Migration Services

A migration is a sequence of physical tasks, and each one can be assigned to Reboot Monkey or to the customer. Reboot Monkey can run the whole physical move or work alongside the customer's own team; who disconnects, reconnects and tests the equipment is agreed per project. That agreement is written down before the move, so nobody discovers on the night that a task has no owner.

The work around a move draws on the wider service set:

  • Server migration: moving equipment between racks, rooms or facilities.
  • Rack and stack: installing, mounting and cabling new hardware at the destination.
  • Smart hands: technical work that needs diagnostic judgement and configuration knowledge, for example when a device does not come back as expected after the move.
  • Remote hands: physical tasks carried out on the customer's instruction, such as reboots, cable checks, component swaps and visual checks.
  • Data center decommissioning: removing and disposing of retired hardware once the move is complete.
  • Hardware monitoring: monitoring of the customer's servers and network equipment by the Reboot Monkey NOC.

Why Reboot Monkey

Reboot Monkey is a third-party datacenter services operator. It sells rack space, IP transit, leased IP addresses, network, data-centre hardware and the services that deliver, install and support them, inside data centres that other companies own and run. It is not a hosting company and does not own a datacenter, so a migration plan is built around the customer's equipment and destination rather than around a building Reboot Monkey needs to fill.

The operator of the facility owns and runs the building, including its power, cooling and access policy, and Reboot Monkey engineers work under the operator's site rules.

A second, briefed Reboot Monkey engineer is named as backup for every customer site, so a move does not depend on a single person being available on the day. On connectivity, Reboot Monkey orders the cross connects and carrier circuits from the facility operator and the carriers present in the facility, and Reboot Monkey engineers install and patch the cabling in the customer's rack. Prices are quoted on request and depend on the customer and the size of the job. As of 2026, Reboot Monkey's field engineers work in 190 countries and more than 400 locations.

How Reboot Monkey Works

These terms apply in every facility in Rotterdam where Reboot Monkey engineers work.

  • Response: 1-hour, around-the-clock incident response SLA, and a 15 minute premium response available where technicians are stationed on-site, as a paid add-on. The incident response SLA covers incidents and unplanned requests; on-site, dispatch and resolution times, priority tiers, and planned or scheduled work are agreed per site in the service agreement.
  • Monitoring: 24/7 NOC monitoring across all facilities, covering IPMI, iDRAC, SNMP, temperature, power, network signals.
  • Hardware: vendor-neutral technicians for Dell, HP, Cisco, Juniper and Arista equipment.
  • Independence: independent from facility operators (not Equinix SmartHands, not NTT staff).
  • One agreement: single provider across cities, so a customer in several cities needs only one agreement.

Related Services

A migration often changes how a company holds its capacity in the city. Teams that are weighing where the moved equipment should live, or whether to add space alongside it, can review Colocation in Rotterdam as part of the same planning exercise. Retired hardware left behind by the move can then be handled through decommissioning and IT asset disposition, which covers data wiping, on-site shredding or degaussing, collection and transport, and resale or buyback quoted case by case.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does data center migration cover in Rotterdam?

Data center migration covers moving equipment between racks, rooms or facilities in Rotterdam. Reboot Monkey can run the whole physical move or work alongside the customer's own team, and who disconnects, reconnects and tests the equipment is agreed per project. Related work such as rack and stack at the destination and decommissioning of retired hardware can be added to the same project.

Do you work in every datacenter in Rotterdam?

Reboot Monkey engineers work in any facility in Rotterdam where the customer has equipment and access, under the operator's own access and safety rules. The customer adds the engineers to the facility's access list before the first visit.

How fast can Reboot Monkey respond in Rotterdam?

Incidents and unplanned requests are handled under a 1-hour, around-the-clock incident response SLA. There is also a 15 minute premium response available where technicians are stationed on-site, as a paid add-on. On-site, dispatch and resolution times, priority tiers, and planned or scheduled work are agreed per site in the service agreement.

How is Reboot Monkey different from the facility operator's own staff?

Facility operators' own technicians work for the building. Reboot Monkey engineers work for the customer: they are independent from facility operators (not Equinix SmartHands, not NTT staff), follow the customer's instructions, and the same team can cover several buildings in the city under one agreement.

How do I get started with data center migration in Rotterdam?

Send the site, the equipment and the task through the contact form. Reboot Monkey replies with a quote and an engineer plan for that facility. Once agreed, the customer adds the engineers to the facility's access list and the data center migration work is scheduled under the operator's rules.
